Background:
Broomfield County Primary is situated in a 'pleasant' residential area of the southern edge of Northallerton and serves mainly private housing in the town with the catchment area including a few farms and the village of Thornton-le-Beans. It is one of seventeen primary schools which form a cluster and feed into the Allertonshire School. Broomfield School has 'extensive' grounds at the moment, although there is a proposal to build a RC school on the same site. Visiting instrumental teachers from the county music service give guitar, flute and clarinet lessons to small groups of children. Extra-curricular activities include football, netball, French, choir, recorders, chess and scrabble. Links have been developed with many organisations such as the church, stroke club, WRVS, police, various local charities, local residents, business people, local historians and the operatic society. 'Broomfield school is a welcoming, happy, contented and fun loving place'.
