Background:
Founded in 1965, the 'secure and attractive' school occupies a two storey, flat-roofed building surrounded by an 'extensive' green area. About half the pupils live in the immediate neighbourhood and the remainder live some distance from the school and attend through parental choice. The school emphasises 'success based on a good self-image', especially for children with special needs. A 'good' range of extra-curricular activities includes sports, dance and drama and all years attend a variety of educational visits. Children can learn the violin or cello. 'Wide links' have been established with industry and some sponsorship is received. The school is 'extensively' used for student work experience and teacher training and receives 'excellent' support from the community. Children support a number of charities, in particular the NSPCC. The 'best feature' of the school is the support it can rely on from parents. 'The fullest possible contact with our children's homes is welcomed'.
