Melbourne Community Primary School is situated in the small village of Melbourne, near York, in the beautiful East Riding of Yorkshire. It serves five nearby villages and the surrounding rural area. The school building is modern and boasts excellent playground and playing field facilities in an attractive environment close to the nature reserve by Pocklington Canal. The school caters for children between the ages of 4 and 11 years and a Peripatetic Nursery, accommodating children from 3 years of age, is based at the school for five half-day sessions a week. Most children move on to Woldgate School in the nearby market town of Pocklington at the end of Year 6. Melbourne Primary School is at the centre of a learning community that believes in promoting life-long for all. The school curriculum embodies all the national curriculum subjects within a broad and balanced framework. At Melbourne School its aim to contribute to the development of young people's beliefs and values and develop knowledge and understanding of religions. A number of lunchtime clubs and after school sports take place throughout the year. These may include football, netball, cross-country, cricket and rounders. The school participates in the annual cross-country local event for boys and girls. Various clubs and activities are offered at lunchtime and after school.
