Background:
Hensall Primary was built in 1856 and extended in the 1960's. The school'serves the villages of Hensall and Heck and is oversubscribed or full in most year groups. A 'substantial' extension to replace temporary accommodation and outside toilets was completed in 1997 and the building now has full disabled access. It is set in 'extensive' grounds and facilities include three classrooms, a library/resource area, hard surfaced play area, a 'large' grass playing field and a wildlife area. Hensall endeavours to 'give the children the same opportunities that larger schools offer'. Pupils compete in all local area sporting competitions including althletics, cross country, football, netball, rounders and cricket. Other extra-curricular activities are environmental club, choir and drama. The school has established links with local businesses and this has led to a maths project for a group of children, and attendance at maths workshops with local businesses for Year 6 children. Links are also 'strong' with the local community, with all the school's social and fundraising events being 'well-attended'. The children support local, national and international charities and the school has been awarded a Charter Mark.
