Background:

The Clifton Without Junior School was founded in 1932 and is located in Rawcliffe, which is approximately one and half miles from York City centre. Sport is seen as a vital part of school life. It helps build teamwork, improves bodily fitness and provides active children with an outlet for their energies. Outside of class the school plays a mixture of team and individual sports. The school has football, cricket, badminton and netball teams playing regular fixtures. School development is a continuous process. There is a school network of 35 computers within the building. The library is undergoing continuous development. All books are catalogued and placed on a computer database. The school's art, design and technology room has recently been given a £9000 makeover. It has been equipped with high quality benching, cupboards and worktables ideal for such a specialised room. The room links directly to the ICT suite and so provides an excellent teaching and learning resource. During the school year class teachers organise various educational visits, both in the local area and further afield. Various clubs are offered at lunchtimes and after school. These include board games, singing, story, computer, cricket, football, netball, guitar and needlework. The school has also qualified for the prestigious Quality Mark award in 2002 and Investor in People status in 2004. To provide a happy and stimulating atmosphere in which children are able to work at their own ability level and reach a high standard of achievement.
