Background:
Founded in 1876, the school moved to its present building, situated 15 miles from Leeds, in the early 1970s. Since then the grounds have been 'extensively' developed to provide a better environment for pupils. 'Excellent' facilities include a computer and printer in every classroom. The 'committed, enthusiastic' staff ensure that the curriculum is shaped to meet each child's needs, including high and low achievers. The school's achievements include a BBC primary school award, and commendations for history projects, poetry and technology. Pupils have also found success in football and rugby league competitions. Years 3 and 4 have swimming lessons and Years 5 and 6 can take part in a residential visit to an outdoor education centre. A number of clubs are run after school for older children. An 'open door policy welcomes parents into the school'. 'We have worked hard to establish an excellent local reputation based on strong home-school links'.
