Background:
The school was founded in 1874 by the Wesleyan Education Committee and was orignally known as Malton Methodist School. In 1886 it moved to new premises and was renamed Malton County Primary School when it was taken over by the local education authority in 1948. The current building opened in 1963 and is situated on a 'very attractive' two-and-a-quarter acre site, which is shared with St Mary's RC School. Over the years there have been many 'significant improvements' to the buildings. The children are introduced to a variety of sports including, football, netball, rugby, cross-country running, athletics and volleyball. Extra-curricular activities include football, netball, pottery, chess, French, gymnastics, craft, computer, choir, orchestra, cricket and rounders. Malton County raises money for a number of charities and organises events such as a summer fete and concert.
