Background:
The school was built in the mid-1960s on a spacious and pleasant site three miles south west of York. Classrooms are similarly spacious and facilities include a renowned, well-established, well-used nature reserve and an open-air, heated swimming pool, which is in use from May to September. The development of ICT over the last 12 months has also been especially notable at the school. Extra-curricular activities flourish in physical education, music and languages. Soccer, rugby, cricket, rounders and netball are well attended. The Archbishop of York visits the school regularly and shows a keen interest in its development. The school aims to help pupils develop lively and enquiring minds, extending their ability and confidence to question and communicate effectively. The whole ethos of the school stresses a caring, sharing and sensitive atmosphere, which encourages every child to feel that they have a contribution to make.
