Background:

South Otterington Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School was built to replace two small Victorian schools: Newby Wiske County Primary, and Thornton le Moor Church of England Primary. The School first opened its doors to pupils in September 1993 and was officially opened by H.R.H. Duchess of Kent in October 1993.The School is situated on the edge of the village of South Otterington on the road to Newby Wiske village. It is approximately four miles south of Northallerton along the A167 Boroughbridge Road (turn off at the Newby Wiske sign). The School lies adjacent to St Andrew's Parish Church and has been designed to complement the Church building.Children coming to the school enjoy life in a purpose-built and very well equipped school with spacious playgrounds and playing field. The school is set in a tranquil rural setting, away from other properties and busy roads. The school aims to give pupils the opportunity to develop their full potential in preparation for their future life, become self-motivated, independent and confident learners. Through its Christian ethos tries to promote pupils spiritual and moral development and to enable them to be independent, considerate, and to know what is of value and morality right.
