Background:
The school was founded in 1988 as a City Technology College converted to an academy in September 2005.Academy is currently undergoing a £14 million refurbishment which will update all current buildings and provide new buildings for science, PE, music, drama and vocational subjects. The academy has three specialisms: outdoor education, science and vocational. It is the leading school in the country for outdoor education and is highly innovative in its approach to vocational education.It specialises in maximising the achievements of inner city children both academically and through the accordingly wide enrichment programme. Macmillan Academy is a school where every student feels they can succeed in some way. The success culture is very apparent, even after spending just a few minutes in the academy.
