Background:

Nunthorpe Primary School is a community primary school for children between the ages of three plus and eleven years of age. In 2000 the school was awarded Beacon Status and has embarked on a programme of curriculum development with Sunderland University. The pupils also have the opportunity to experience a range of educational visits that further enrich and develop learning. The school music curriculum aims to develop within pupils the ability to perform and compose music with understanding. The children are encouraged to use their imagination and artistic ability in a variety of ways and using a wide range of materials in cross-circular context. It also has outdoor education programme which is well structured to give progressive challenges to their pupils. The school to provide outdoor education regularly uses two residential centres Teesdale and Park House. The school aims to provide stimulating and happy environment.
