Built in 1833; main part of the school is now a grade II listed building housing two classrooms with third in temporary accommodation adjoining the building. Situated on the outskirts of Spennithorne Village and near the neighbouring village of Harmby; serves four other nearby villages. Grounds are extensive and allow for play and activitiy areas. Secure play centre for the reception class with a play cabin and play equipment, a playground, sports field and garden. Access to local playing fields including cricket and football grounds. Teachers supported by non-teaching assistants and voluntary helpers-parents and friends who give extra support through activities such as literacy work, music, sport, computers and cookery. Peripatetic teachers for woodwind, keyboard and stringed instruments. Takes part in annual Wensleydale Tournament of Song and regularly achieves notable success in the poetry and music classes. Strong sporting tradition. Friends of Spennithorne School organises fund-raising activities and social gatherings. Community links with local church. Suported the Kilimatinde Trust for two years to help a community in Africa; regularly supports other charities including Comic Relief and VisionAid. Not over-subscribed.
