Background:
The school is a community primary school for boys and girls between the ages of five and 11 with a nursery unit for children aged from three upwards. It is one of the largest primary schools in North Yorkshire. The main school was built in 1911, extended with two classrooms in 1946 and again in 1972, when a new hall and four classrooms were added. In 2001 a further wing of four classrooms has been added. In 2003 a new main entrance, office and library was completed. The school also has an ICT suite. Two additional temporary classrooms are also on the site. There is a nursery which is in a separate building within the grounds. There are three playgrounds and a playing field. The school participates fully in all local and area competitions and fixtures. It has a variety of clubs which meet at lunchtime and after-school which include football and cricket. The school aims to provide a stable, friendly and just environment where children can learn by experience to value honesty, kindness and tolerance and to respect those laws which are aimed at the common good.
