Background:

Pickering Community Junior School is a non-denominational County school, which is situated approximately one quarter of a mile from the centre of the town in a turn-of-the-century school building. It stands in its own grounds bordered by trees, gardens and fields, providing a safe environment for children to be educated. The buildings were originally erected in 1904 and have been altered, extended and added to as the nature of the school has changed and developed. The school's facilities include a library and audio/visual/community room along with two computer suites and an international room. A new designated music room has been built.The school provides a wide range of extra-curricular activities, which include soccer, rounders, guitar, orchestra, netball, library, cricket, chess and cross-country running. The school has a strong musical interest and guitar groups and choir figure largely in school productions throughout the year. The school ensures that all children have the best possible opportunities to realise their potential and be well prepared for their move to secondary education. It aims to lay sound foundations in basic skills for all children, whilst understanding and catering for individual differences.
