Background:
Scalby School was opened in 1942 and became comprehensive in 1973. It occupies a six and a half acre site to the north of Scarborough, where its catchment area includes 100 square miles of North York Moors and 30 per cent of pupils come from rural areas. The school's buildings have been improved and it also provides facilities such as eight science laboratories, three art rooms, sports hall, gymnasium, learning resource centre and three networked ICT rooms. French and Spanish are taught from Year 7 and child development is available as GCSE options. About 17 per cent of pupils learn musical environment. The school is recognised for its sports achievements and has been awarded with the FA Charter Mark and Investor in People Status. Pupils regularly raise funds for charity. The school aims to create a happy and secure environment in which everyone respects and cares for each other and their surroundings.
