Background:

Scarcroft School is situated in the historic City of York; this original Board School first opened in 1896 and is accommodated in two-storey, Grade 2 listed building that boasts a recently renovated bell tower and clock. A millennium appeal recently raised money to refurbish the library. The school'strives to provide a happy and caring environment, which develops pupils' self-esteem, through methods such as displaying work and offering a wide extra-curricular programme. Scarcroft School has a strong sense of team spirit. The wide range of extra-curricular activities it provides encourages children to develop their own interests. Children are encouraged to communicate clearly and confidently in speech and writing, in ways appropriate to different situations. The pupils will be taught a legible style of handwriting and a wide range of punctuation and spelling. In addition, the school participates in a variety of City of York Festivals and enjoys a range of extra-curricular musical activities, including choir and percussion work. The music curriculum is strength of the school and pupils develop a range of listening, appraising and composition skills.
