Background:
Thrisk Grammar and Modern School was established in 1957 to cater for all the senior children from the villages. In 1970 it was renamed Thrisk School and is now organised as an 11 to 18 mixed comprehensive school. In September 2004 it was again renamed as a Thrisk School and Sixth Form College. The buildings occupy a single site on the edge of the town. The school has been much extended to include an assembly hall, sports hall, a gymnasium, a library, food technology rooms, specialist computer aided and technology facilities, business studies suite, drama studio, computer rooms, careers library, music suite and an art block. There are extensive playing fields, including an all-weather AstroTurf pitch providing facilities for hockey, soccer, tennis, rugby, cricket and athletics. The school also offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities, which is a valuable part of every student's education. The school aims to provide a happy, pleasant and caring place where learning is a positive experience.
