Background:

Situated in a 'very beautiful' location between the North Yorkshire moors and the Yorkshire Wolds, and within a couple of miles of Castle Howard, the school occupies a 'very attractive, light and airy' Victorian sandstone building that dates from 1841. The school has been awarded Beacon school status. They aim to maintain a tradition of providing a 'very caring yet disciplined' approach to education as well as high standards in basic subjects and in art, drama and music. As well as taking part in several inter-school sporting tournaments, the school hosts a cross country tournament every year. It has won the prize for best art at the local Malton show for two years running, while guitar and woodwind tuition is offered. Children support 'many' charities, particularly at harvest time and through their Christmas carols services. The 'very family orientated' atmosphere is supported by the 'established' Parent Teacher Association.
