Background:
Woldgate College is an East Riding of Yorkshire, 11 to 18, mixed comprehensive college serving the market town of Pocklington and surrounding villages. The college has just achieved Specialist College status in the Performing Arts, which has strengthened its resolve to engender a community which values the arts through direct access to all forms. In arts and design, it offers the opportunity to study a wide range of discipline. In music, skills taught relate to three strands - listening, performing and composing. Drama is offered at GCSE level and is also thriving subject. The school has links with many regional and national organisations and it will continue to develop these in order to fulfil its new role as a centre for Performing Arts in the East Riding. The school regularly participate in East Riding trials and tournaments and in friendly fixtures against its local schools. Its outdoor facilities include three netball courts, five tennis courts, three grass hockey pitches, four football pitches, an eight lane athletics track, two rugby pitches and two permanent orienteering courses. The gymnasium and sports hall comprise its indoor facilities, together with a small weight training area. A full range of games feature within the physical education curriculum alongside dance, gymnastic activities, athletic activities and outdoor and adventurous activities. The school has close connections with the Junior Schools Sports Association and it works with this organisation to provide opportunities for competitions and tournaments. Its Community Sports Leader Award students play a major role in this junior school provision. The college seeks to provide a caring, supportive environment in which all students are regarded as having equal worth and in turn are expected to show the necessary commitment and determination to maximise their potential.
