Background:
The school is situated on the edge of the market town of Guisborough, about six miles from the coast and a couple of miles from the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. It opened in 1958 as Guisborough County Modern School and became, as it is now, The Laurence Jackson School in 1970. The 1970s and 80s marked a period of 'extensive expansion' as local organisations such as The Evening Institute began to make use of the school buildings. Although there are still five main feeder primary schools, recently Laurence Jackson's catchment area has increased dramatically beyond its historical region to now encompass as many as 23 feeder schools. An ethos, which actively promotes caring and civilised behaviour and which positively, values the importance of good relationships between all members of the school community.
