Background:
Allertonshire School is a comprehensive school for students between the ages of 11 to 14 years. It is situated in a rural environment on the northern outskirts of Northallerton, the county town of North Yorkshire. At the age of 14 pupils transfer to the school's partner community college, Northallerton College. The school is located on two sites, either side of a main road and pupils are therefore also divided into two houses. Sporting activities include athletics, badminton, basketball, cricket, cross-country, dance, football, gymnastics, hockey, netball, rugby, tennis and volleyball. The school makes daily use of the nearby Hambleton Sports Hall. There is a school-wide computer network with full access to the Internet and pupils are taught information technology both as part of the technology programme and in other areas of the curriculum where appropriate. This is a friendly and caring community where every individual is considered to be of equal importance, a place where everyone has both rights and responsibilities and where success, in some form, is sought for every child. Every opportunity is taken to praise and encourage.
