Background:
Bedale High overlooks farmland, and has extensive playing fields. The adjacent Bedale Leisure Centre also provides the pupils with access to a swimming pool. The school provides a wide variety of physical education, including football, rugby, hockey and cricket. There are six specialised computer rooms and all pupils take a short course GCSE in information technology. About 40 per cent of students study two modern foreign languages from Year 8. The school was included in the list of outstanding secondary schools in the Chief Inspector's report for 1998. The school's ethos aims to create and maintain a caring community with an atmosphere of courtesy, consideration and respect.
