Background:
The school has served South Harrogate since 1968, though a large number of children now attend from outside the catchment area and the school is over-subscribed in some year groups. Teaching is arranged on an 'individualistic basis' to encourage pupils to achieve their own potential. Home learning in conjunction with parents, is 'encouraged', and the 'thriving' Parent Teacher Association helps to maintain home-school links. Specialist tuition is available in strings, woodwind, brass, keyboard, percussion and guitar, and the school has a full orchestra, recorder ensembles and a choir. 'Extensive' playing fields and a 'well-equipped' hall/gymnasium allow children to develop their physical skills, and sports are sometimes played against other schools. Other extra-curricular activities offered include French, computing, chess and science clubs. All Year 6 pupils have swimming lessons. Pupils regularly produce a newsletter.
