Background:
Stamford Bridge Primary is a village school, first opened in 1795 and the only school in this attractive East Riding village, seven miles east of York. It is now housed in buildings dating from 1911, 1968, 1978 and 1983 and is on a split site. There are two large playing fields, a 'strong' extra-curricular programme with football, netball, cricket, rounders, touch rugby, drama, French club, judo, karate and art club. It has a 'fine' musical tradition with a 60 voice school choir, which has performed on television, radio and sung in York Minster. There have also been choir tours to Germany and Belgium. There is a school orchestra, wind and recorder groups, and instrument tuition is available in piano, violin, guitar, woodwind, brass and percussion. The school has its own indoor swimming pool which is available for use by the community. Children from the school also raise funbds for several national charities.
