Background:

The Newlands Catholic Primary School FCJ is located at the top of Saltersgill Avenue. The surrounding area is mainly green fields, most of which are facilitated with football goals. The school is a Catholic comprehensive school, owned by a religious order who first came to Middlesborough in the 1870's.Throughout the school year pupils are encouraged to take part in trips and activities. The school also runs skiing holidays and annual trips to France. Pupils are encouraged to continually build on their abilities through summer school, extra-curricular activities including French club, Keyboarding sessions, library training, the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme and the annual incident hike. In addition to standard classrooms, which are arranged as departmental suites wherever possible, allowing staff to be based in their own rooms, there is a range of specialist rooms comprising: six science laboratories, all completely refurbished, two information technology rooms and one business studies room, two art rooms. A self-contained music block with teaching area and practice rooms, two special educational needs rooms and a small study area/resource attached five technology rooms, three for design/technology, two for food/technology. Three further science laboratories were completely refurbished in 2003; lifts for disabled pupils/staff were installed at the same time. Another recent building development, the convent teaching block, provides specialist teaching areas for religious education, special needs and geography as well as a Chapel, interview and conference rooms. Radical refurbishment of the dining hall and kitchen was completed in Autumn 2004. Work started in November 2004 to completely refurbish boy's and girl's changing areas and to improve the existing tennis courts to a floodlit multi-use games area. There is an assembly hall, a large dining hall, a gymnasium and a recently refurbished library. The playing fields are on site. The school aims to provides an orderly, happy environment in which teaching and learning flourish. I couldn't find the information for the columns which are blank.RegardsRuchi.
