Background:
This over-subscribed school was built as one of the first community schools in 1949 and recently celebrated its 50th birthday. It has a 'noticeably friendly and supportive' ethos. Staff highlight the fact that children 'excel' not only in the basic academic subjects, but also in sports and in music. There are 'well established' links with the community, which are maintained in particular through the work of the 'active' Parents as Partners Association. The over-subscribed Early Years Unit is one of only two in the Whitby area.
