Background:
Original Victorian building in small village on River Ouse, four miles south of york; dates back to 1872, helping retian atmosphere of village school; many improvements include addition of third classroom in 1997. Children grouped into four classes, but different work planned for each age-group, allowing children to work at a level appropriate to their needs. 'We realise the importance of literacy and numeracy, but strive to provide an enriched environment. We are also very keen that the children should be able to express themselves and consequently spend time on creative and imaginative writing and on drama activities.' Many children have won poetry competitions and had work published.'We aim for Naburn to be a happy and caring school, working in partnership with parents and guardians, governors and with the wider community to provide a stimulating environment and a broad and balanced curriculum.' Over-subscribed, with two applications per place. DfES achievement award in 2002; Artsmark Gold Award in 2002.
