Background:
Founded in 1322, Northallerton College is one of the oldest educational institutions in England. It is set in 'pleasant grounds' in the county town of Northallerton, and incorporates games pitches, tennis and netball courts, athletics provision and an artificial cricket wicket. Boys' football is 'particularly strong'. There is a 'wide range' of courses for full-time and part-time students, with a national reputation for music and a strong Performing Arts department. The college is one of 11 centres in the United Kingdom allocated extra government funds by the employment department to develop the use of learning technology and there are 20 networked computers in a 'generously' staffed learning resource centre, which is open 50 hours a week. School ethos: 'Focus on learning and achievement; respectful of individuality provided it does not infringe the legitimate rights of others.' This school is a hardworking, performing well, friendly, student focused and caring.
